Trinity College London is the world’s best and oldest external examination board since 135 years of undisputed reputation in 60 countries. Performing Arts is in the heart of Trinity Exams, which is key to their continued success around the world, therefore representatives from London travel all over the world to administer examinations not only in music, but also in speech, drama and communication.
Trinity offers graded music qualification for music theory and for performance in Guitar, Piano, Electronic Keyboards, Voice and Drums. The grading begins with the Initial Grade, and then are numbered from Grade 1 to Grade 8 in increasing difficulty. Candidates are rated under three categories – the performance of musical pieces, technical work such as scales, and supporting tests such as sight reading and improvisation. Candidates are graded on a scale from 1 to 100, with 60 being the pass mark. Candidates have some flexibility in the choices of pieces and tests prepared for each of these sections.
